ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
Cantatas “Wer sich rächet” TWV 1:1600 by Georg Philipp Telemann; “Lobe den Herrn meine Seele” by Johann Kuhnau; “Du wahrer Gott und Davids Sohn” BWV 23 and “Jesus nahm zu sich die Zwölfe” BWV 22 by Johann Sebastian Bach; “Aus der Tiefen rufen wir” by Christoph Graupner
Let us imagine, for the duration of a concert, the audition that Bach could have passed in 1723 in order to access the prestigious position of Kantor of the Saint-Thomas church in Leipzig. This was not the case in fact, but who could think today that he was not the first choice for this position and that only the successive withdrawals of his competitors would earn him an appointment? Paul Agnew and his Arts Florissants continue their exploration of the cantatas of the German master in Ambronay and this year summon the figures of some of his most illustrious contemporaries such as Telemann and Graupner.
