ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
The Collegium Musicum ensemble, under the direction of Oleg Romanenko, continues its ambitious project of performing all of Bach’s cantatas on historical instruments in the cathedral. The ninth season of the series builds on the previous one: listeners, along with the musicians, continue to follow in Bach’s footsteps in Leipzig and—with a difference of 300 years—hear the sacred works of the great master, which transformed the musical landscape of the city and, ultimately, the entire future history of music. The 2025/26 season will feature cantatas composed during Bach’s years as cantor of St. Thomas Church. Listeners can appreciate the meaning of Bach’s masterpieces through commentary by Roman Nasonov, a leading expert on early sacred music and associate professor at the Moscow Conservatory.
Program:
Cantata “Gottlob! nun geht das Jahr zu Ende” (“Glory to God! This Year Has Ended”), BWV 28
Cantata “Herr Gott, dich loben wir” (“Lord God, We Praise Thee”), BWV 16
Motet “Sing dem Herrn ein neues Lied” (“Sing to the Lord a New Song”), BWV 225
