ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
ALL BACH CANTATAS. Season VII “300 Years Later” Concerto 2
Collegium Musicum Ensemble Artistic Director and Conductor — Oleg Romanenko The Collegium Musicum ensemble under the direction of Oleg Romanenko continues a grandiose project, within the framework of which all of Bach’s cantatas are performed on historical instruments in the space of the cathedral. The seventh season of the unique cycle is dedicated to the anniversary date — exactly 300 years ago, Johann Sebastian took up the post of cantor of the Church of St. Thomas in Leipzig, transforming the musical landscape of the city and, ultimately, the entire future history of music. In the 2023/24 season, cantatas created in the first year of Bach’s work in his new position will be performed. Comments by the greatest expert in early sacred music, associate professor of the Moscow Conservatory Roman Nasonov help listeners to comprehend the meaning of Bach’s masterpieces. The program includes: Cantata BWV 138 Warum betrübst du dich, mein Herz (“Why do you grieve, my heart?”) Cantata BWV 48 Ich elender Mensch, wer wird mich erlösen (“Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me?”) Cantata BWV 109 Ich glaube, lieber Herr, hilf meinem Unglauben (“I believe, Lord, help my unbelief!”)
