Toivo Kuula and HKO made an indelible impression on the Helsinki audience in February 1911. “With these two concerts, the young composer has completely conquered the concert audience in the capital region. He is its favorite child now. So he has hit the heart of Helsinki with his music.” (The Finnish people, 24/02/1911).
The Merenkilpijäneidot, composed to the verses of Eino Leino’s Helkavirsi, was also included in the conquest of Helsinki. Oskar Merikanto’s solo songs also have a permanent place in the hearts and soulscapes of Finns.
