ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE

The Roberto Plasencia Saldaña Bicentennial Theater of the Guanajuato Cultural Forum presents in February its new opera production with Aída, an opera in four acts with music by Giuseppe Verdi (1813-1901) and Italian libretto by Antonio Ghislanzoni (1824-1893); a new production of the Roberto Plasencia Saldaña Bicentennial Theater in co-production with the Sinaloan Artistic Society and the original set design by Michael Yeargan for San Diego Opera.

Aida, an Ethiopian princess, is captured and taken as a slave to Egypt. Her captors don’t know that she is, in fact, the daughter of the Ethiopian King Amonasro, who is invading Egypt to free her from her. Radames, a captain of the Egyptian guard, falls in love with Aida, so her heart is torn between her love for her and her loyalty to her to Pharaoh. However, Amneris – daughter of Pharaoh – is in love with Radames, so this dilemma will culminate irreversibly.

The musical direction of this new production will be by Mr. Enrique Patrón de Rueda, who has a 42-year professional career in music and especially in the opera world and will direct the Symphony Orchestra of the University of Guanajuato; the stage direction is by the experienced actor and opera lover Luis Miguel Lombana accompanied by Emilio Zurita, repository set designer; Diego Rodríguez Montalvo, technical coordination; Rafael Mendoza, lighting design; Víctor Ruiz, choreography and stage movement and Emilio Rebollar, costume design.
