CINTÁNYÉROS CUDAR WORLD – Oszvald Marika anniversary gala

The Kossuth and Jászai Mari Award-winning actress, operetta singer, meritorious artist, and lifelong member of the Company of the Immortals – who is undoubtedly a great favorite of the theater and operetta-loving audience – Marika Oszvald was greeted with a gala by the Budapest Operetta Theatre company in recognition of her sparkling career of the past fifty years. Her talent was noticed even as a novice performer, and one of the first reviews published about her said: “A living talent born for the stage”. It is therefore no wonder that during her beautifully soaring career she was able to shape most of the significant roles in operetta literature. Not only did the domestic audience take her to heart, she also performed in the USA, Israel, Australia and Japan. With the help of her colleagues, the eternally young artist will treat the great meritorious woman with a lively performance, which we would like to immortalize and bring to TV viewers as well. The milieu of the Budapest Operetta Theatre provides a worthy home for the festive event. The performers are: László Csere, Attila Dolhai, András Faragó, Mónika Fischl, Zsuzsa Kalocsai, Máté Kerényi Miklós, Péter Laki, Enikő Lévai, Anita Lukács, Marika Oszvald, Károly Peller, Zsolt Vadász and József Virágh. The evening’s conductors are: László Makláry, Gyula Pfeiffer and Pál Rónai.

Marika Oszvald, Kossuth and Mari Jászai Award winner, meritorious artist, lifelong member of the Immortals Company. The Budapest Operetta Theatre is 100 years old this year, and she has been a defining artist of the theatre for 50 years. Her father, Gyula Oszvald, was a bon vivant, and her mother, Marika Halasi, was a soubrette, so she brought her love of the operetta genre from her parents’ home.
Her first role at the Operetta Theatre was the maid of Tóth Marival in The Case of the Noszty Boy, which she was entrusted with while she was still in college, and critics wrote about her as a “born-to-be-staged talent” . From then on, she successfully performed all the soubrette roles in operetta literature, touring the whole world, performing in Munich, the United States, Canada, Israel, Australia, and Japan, among others.
