ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
Organized intuitively by Vagner Cunha, the composition has three divisions. The first presents the beginning of Dante’s journey in the dark jungle, passing through the gates of Hell and catching a glimpse of the beautiful young Beatrice, Dante’s muse, in addition to introducing the other protagonists of the initial part of The Divine Comedy . In the second segment, eight circles of Hell are covered. Finally, in the third stage of the show, we reach the ninth and final circle.
“The intention has always been to use Dante and his work as a starting point to recover humanist ideals, valuing art and tolerance. We want to touch people, stimulate empathy for art, for a concert hall, for culture, not just Brazilian culture”, explains Vagner. To compose the work, the artist set the original verses to music in Italian: “Dante’s text is perfect, the music is already there, in the sound of the words”.
The original texts used in the show were selected by José Clemente Pozenato based on the original work by Dante Alighieri. During the presentations, both online and in person, the public will be able to follow the subtitles in Portuguese with the original translation made by the author from Rio Grande do Sul.
