  • ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE

    Transcending genre boundaries: a
song cycle unfolding like an opera, a drama transformed into a song.
    The piano
appears on stage not as a mere accompaniment instrument, but as another actor.

The extraordinary music and script open a new door.
    Bong Jun-soo’s witty lyrics and
Ryu Jae-jun’s unique, romantic music explore the realities of
    love, marriage, parenting, and conflict—
the lives of a couple navigating the realities of life.
A stage where the weight and warmth of life coexist.

    Synopsis

Birthrates are the lowest in the world. In an era where marriage and childbirth are a choice, some say, “Individual happiness is now more important.”

The opera “A Couple’s Story” explores the journey of a couple, beginning with love, through marriage, childbirth, childcare, conflict, reconciliation, and finally, the meaning of walking together again.
Their story unfolds on the stage of life, all the more authentic because it is unique, and all the more deeply resonant because it is familiar.

Soprano and bass-baritone voices overlaid on a piano melody, and moments of life we have lived through, or will live through.
This piece is not just the story of a couple, but the story of all of us living today.
