On the occasion of the bicentenary of the birth of Sándor Petőfi, the Győr National Theatre, in collaboration with Coopera, has embedded one of the most popular works of our immortal poet in a new genre: a comic opera based on the epic parody entitled The Hammer of the Village . The performance, directed by Zakariás Zalá and written with the libretto and libretto of Ágota Bereczki, preserves the humor that can be seen in the love battle between the Fejenagy and the soft-hearted cantor, for the favors of the Szemérmetes Erzsók, and holds up a mirror for all modern people: breathing life into the Petőfi characters, exaggerated with caricature elements, it arms them with worries, problems, and joys that are also typical of modern people. To all this, Adrián Kovács’s musical world elevates the parodic tone into a true classical music, all-art production.
