Theatro São Pedro hosts the program A Canção Brasileira em 200 anos, with the presentation of two concerts under the musical direction of pianist Ricardo Ballestero, with the presence of the Orchestra of Theatro São Pedro and guest singers. The presentations take place on 12/03 (Saturday), at 4 pm and on 12/04 (Sunday), at 11 am.
The first concert, Vertentes, features baritone Homero Velho, and the second, Entre-Lugares, features soprano Manuela Freua.
The concerts propose to create a journey between two important temporal cycles, the first, from 1822 to 1922, which runs from the Independence of Brazil to the Week of Modern Art, and the second, from 1922 to 2022, reflecting on the concerns that the movement modernista discussed and the respective transformations that echoed in the arts until today.
The two programs presented explore some of the paths that Brazilian song took in the 19th and 20th centuries and also discuss where it is going in the first decades of our century.
For Rircardo Ballestero, this vast panorama shows places, references, sounds and poetics that inspired the constitution of the genre. “Revisiting the past, we (re)discover the sources that, when flowing into this long songbook, intertwine and collide, bringing new possibilities for interpretation and musical creation”, he highlights.
