ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE

The year 2024 marks exactly 45 years since the 1st National Adam Didur Opera Singers’ Competition and 20 years since the first international edition, a competition organized by the Silesian Opera in Bytom. This year we will also celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of the patron of the competition, Adam Didur.

We are proud that our competition has such a deeply rooted tradition in the arena of Polish vocal art. The first edition took place in the autumn of 1979. The initiator was the then director of the Silesian Opera in Bytom, Napoleon Siess, who, encouraged by the literary director Tadeusz Kijonka and the later first director of the Competition Zygmunt Folga, submitted a project to the ministerial authorities to organize a cyclical, nationwide opera vocal competition in this very place.

After the exciting competition of the first stage, which took place at the Academy of Music, the second stage of the Competition moves to the stage of the Silesian Opera. It is here that the participants will have the opportunity to present their skills to a wide audience and jury, continuing the competition for a place in the final.
